The weather is finally cooling off, thank goodness, and it’s a chance to wear this delightful capelet a friend sent me from Chicago. It just feels like a hug.
Everything is going to hell. I’m exhausted, I’m sad, I’m overwhelmed. It’s week two of classes, I’m trying my best. Maybe this bright print caftan will help. Maybe.
This summer, I transitioned to enjoying flowing garments, especially robes, caftans, and wrap dresses. This was the first dress I bought, and I was initially nervous. However, it feels particularly nice and comfortable for me. Wearing this was a bit of a risk today, but I loved it. I paired it with an antique necklace, … More Free Flow | Friday, 21 August 2020
It is still 86F (30C) here. It’s sweltering. I needed a simple red caftan (from a local vintage store), an abalone necklace, and determination.
Welcome back to a new academic year. It’s my seventh as a professor, and my third at USD. We’re in the middle of a heat wave here. It’s nearly 85F (29C), and I wracked my brains trying to think of something comfortable I could wear in the age of zoom that would still be professional … More And We’re Back… | Monday, 17 August 2020

Some days require ingenuity and fashion. I combined a red harness, a jumpsuit from an old costume, and a statement necklace to get through the day. I’d planned to give the corresponding lecture in that outfit but I just didn’t have the energy. That lecture, which I recorded in a baggy sweatshirt, is here. It’s … More Lecture #8: Red for Filth (for Wed, 22 April 2020)
I’m so damn anxious. And I’m tired. This quarantine keeps dragging on. Today involved digging out my eighth grade Halloween costume from October 1996. But with this hair colour, I look like Hades from Hercules. Today’s lecture: South Africa and Apartheid (click here).
This weekend I dyed my hair purple. I also recorded a lecture on the Congo Crisis and South African apartheid. Wild. It’s available here. I’m so tired. But I’m soldiering on. This look was fun and flowy and simple and very colour coordinated.
